The National Coordination of Shelters (CNCA), an Italian federation that brings together 260 shelter organizations, has criticized Italy's shelter policies for unaccompanied minors. In a letter addressed to the government and to the municipalities, the CNCA points out that the state's subsidy of 45 euros a day per boarder is insufficient to cover the growing costs. The letter also states that shelters hosting only migrant minors could be discriminatory and should not exist.
