Italy has said it will allow migrant rescue ships to enter its ports until a deal is reached between all EU members on a new system of distributing new arrivals. Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi said Italy would accept vessels for five more weeks while EU members negotiated a new policy. Italy, where the far-right government has staked out an extreme position on migration, is the main entry point for migrants coming from Africa to Europe. In June, the government refused to allow a ship carrying more than 600 migrants to enter port in Sicily; it eventually docked in Valencia, Spain.
