Anyone who catcalls, follows, intimidates or asks women for sex in Rotterdam, can count on a maximum fine of 4,100 EUR or three months jail time in the near future. Local council official Joost Eerdmans has announced that the municipality will change its local regulations to make this possible. A hotline, linked to the Center for Sexual Violence, will also be set up for victims. Research shows that 84 percent of the women in Rotterdam who are between 18 and 45 years old have experienced sexual intimidation in public.
