The European Court of Human Rights issued on January 13, 2015, a judgment on criminal defamation and freedom of expression. In its decision in the case Maciejewski v. Poland, the court ruled that a journalist’s defamation conviction violated his right to freedom of expression, guaranteed under Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights. Dr. Adam Bodnar and Dominika Bychawska-Siniarska of the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights represented the journalist.
