A guardianship council is a group that is interested in the welfare of people under guardianship. It helps in securing the future of children with disabilities, whose aging parents aren't able to provide care or solve complex life situations. In 2014, only six guardianship councils existed in all of the Czech Republic. It is a woefully low number, given that there are more than 36,000 people without full legal capacity. One reason for there being only six councils is the state's failure to inform the affected and their families about the possibilities and benefits of the councils.
