An LGBT activist and former mayor of Słupsk is launching a new party in an attempt to change Poland's political landscape. At an event in Warsaw on 3 February, Robert Biedron unveiled his new Wiosna ("Spring") party as an openly liberal alternative to the ultra-conservative, right-wing platform of the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party. Even before the launch of his movement, Biedron had been receiving up to 9 percent support in polls, an extraordinary level of support for a largely unknown political entity. In the same polls, roughly 37 percent of respondents supported PiS.
