Hungarian daily paper Magyar Nemzet and Budapest-based FM Lánchíd Rádió have closed down after 80 years on the media market. Both are owned by Lajos Simicska, an ex-ally of Viktor Orbán. He claims the lack of sustainable financing is the reason behind both decisions. This is the second major media closure of opposition papers in the Hungary since the largest daily, Népszabadság, was shut down in autumn 2016. With the latest shut down, balanced news reporting becomes even more scarce in Hungary.
