Heads of eight prominent media groups called on the
European Commission to use all powers to push for a full and
independent investigation into the murder of Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana
Galizia. In their letter to EC VP Frans Timmermans, they ask the EC to engage in urgent dialogue with the Maltese government to ensure that it's aware of its EU obligations to uphold the rule of law and maintain
press freedom and free expression. The signees reiterate that the objective of
Caruana Galizia's murder was to silence her investigation into corruption
at the highest levels in Malta.
