The European Parliament on Wednesday voted in favor of the so-called entry/exit system to cross check the identity of people with various databases. The system aims to register all non-EU travellers throughout the passport-free Schengen area, and its proponents say it will help detect terrorists using fake IDs. Critics of the entry/exit system say it will cause unlawful mass data collection and deportations. Launch of the system is planned by 2020.
