German Chancellor Angela Merkel has acknowledged that all other parties in the Bundestag are in favor of same-sex marriage, and it enjoys wide support among German voters. Merkel was speaking at the Gorki Theatre for an on-stage interview with two editors of German women's magazine "Brigitte" when an audience member questioned her about gay marriage progress in the country. Merkel went further, saying she "hopes" that the debate will shift "into the direction of a decision of conscience," which would free members of her party to vote as they wish should a gay marriage bill come to a vote.
