While the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, has registered a number of lesbian couples as parents, he has refused do the same for a gay couple. For this reason, their twins, born in the United States, remain in a legal-administrative limbo. One of the fathers explained that in Italy the twins have no parents; the girls are not regarded as Italian, despite being daughters of two Italian citizens, which makes accessing health care and nursery school difficult. Before proceeding, the Municipality of Milan is waiting for the Supreme Court to decide on a similar case.
