The latest annual report on global press freedom by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) finds rising hostility in the EU towards journalists and their work. Although Europe still ranks as the highest region on RSF's index, it has fallen more than any other since the last report. Europe is home to four of the top five countries where press freedom has deteriorated the most over the past year. Malta, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Serbia all fell substantially. The report makes specific mention of the murders of journalists Daphne Caruana Galizia in Malta and Jan Kuciak in Slovakia.
