Amnesty International, Antigone, Arci, CILD and Cittadinanzattiva have organized an event for today, Human Rights Day, that will observe one minute of silence in recognition of the need for the inclusion of torture in Italy's penal code. The event will take place in several cities as well as in the press room of the Chamber of Deputies, where a bill introducing the crime is pending. Many other organizations will be present, as will politicians who support the request. Italy is still lacking the crime of torture despite pressure from human rights organizations and international rights bodies.
