Members of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee urge the EU Commission and member states to put forward measures for protecting and promoting the rights of intersex people in the EU. The resolution, passed on Tuesday, denounces the fact that intersex children still face human rights violations and genital mutilations in the EU. The resolution condemns the continuation of intersex variations being treated as diseases, despite the lack of evidence supporting the success of medical treatments. Lastly, it calls for more flexible birth registration procedures for intersex persons.
