The conservatives-controlled Polish lower house of parliament has passed a law legalizing medical marijuana under certain circumstances. The law would allow prescription-only cannabis-based medicine to be made at pharmacies using
imported ingredients. Lawmakers rejected the cultivation of cannabis
for medical purposes. The law, which now awaits approval by the Senate and the
Polish president, excludes recreational cannabis use. Wider public debate on the
issue appeared after the firing of a doctor in Warsaw who administered
marijuana to his young epileptic patients on an experimental basis.
