The leaders of four political groups in the European Parliament want Polish Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Ryszard Czarnecki to lose his title of vice president of the body, after he used a Nazi-era slur to describe another MEP. Czarnecki, a member of the Poland's ruling Law and Justice party, called Roza Thun und Hohenstein a "szmalcownik" - a pejorative term for Poles who blackmailed hidden Jews during the Nazi occupation. The letter condemning his words was signed by the leaders of the European People's Party, the Socialist and Democrats, the Liberals, and Greens.
