The amendment to the Press Law Act provides changes to the current law on authorization of the press statements. The proposed amendment is to implement the European Court of Human Rights judgment in case Wizerkaniuk v. Poland and introduces statutory time limits for the granting of a pre-publication approval: 24 hours for journals and 3 days for magazines. The proposed regulation does not address a key problem: under the amended law, a journalist may be held legally responsible for failing to obtain a pre-publication approval of a statement published in an accurate and truthful manner.
