TVP, a Polish state television station under the control of the ruling Law and Justice party, has become a political flashpoint ahead of the EU elections. The station is widely seen as a mouthpiece for the government, and its handling of the murder of Gdańsk Mayor Paweł Adamowicz prompted fresh protests against the channel's biased coverage. Donald Tusk, president of the European Council and a former Polish prime minister, tweeted: "Lies organized by the authorities with the use of public funds are a terrible and dangerous form of violence, of which we are all victims."
