Well-known Hungarian rapper Dopeman did not commit vandalism when he kicked the head of a statue of Prime Minister Viktor Orbán as it was brought down at a demonstration in 2013, a Hungarian court of first instance has ruled. The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union insisted throughout the lawsuit that the expression of political opinion, when not violating anyone's rights, cannot be considered a crime, even if it criticizes the leader of the country. Opinions found repellent or outrageous by some people should have a place in a democratic society. The prosecutor has appealed the court's decision.
