Unaccompanied children in Bulgaria's refugee centers are deliberately registered by the authorities as members of other families. This is one of the findings in the National Preventive Mechanism's report on the conditions of detention centers in 2015. Bulgarian authorities do this to avoid violating the prohibition on detention of unaccompanied children in the centers. So instead of receiving specialized assistance and protection as members of a vulnerable group, children find themselves behind bars in centers for adults.
