The rescue ship Aquarius, operating in the Mediterranean since 2016, has had its registration revoked. The move jeopardises further life-saving missions by the only private rescue ship still operating along the heavily travelled sea corridor between Libya and Italy. Upon its next entry into port, Aquarius will be forced to remove its Panama maritime flag and will not be able to sail again until it has a new one. The two organisations running the vessel, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and SOS Mediterranée, have accused the Italian government of putting pressure on Panama to de-flag the ship.
