A coalition of 17 global civil society organisations, including Liberties, has sent a letter to European Commissioner for Justice and Consumers Věra Jourová to express the need for a reform of US surveillance laws. The groups say the EU must suspend the Privacy Shield data-transfer agreement with the US unless that country's Congress pushes forward meaningful reform of existing regulatory framework related to data protection and privacy. The letter points out that the law that allowed surveillance programs like PRISM, revealed by Edward Snowden, is still on the books.
