More than 20,000 Romanians protested across the country on Sunday against proposed changes to judiciary laws that would make them more tolerant to corruption. One proposal would take away the president’s power to appoint the top anti-corruption prosecutor, giving it to the justice minister. Critics worry this gives the government, which is independent from the president, too much power. Sunday's demonstration comes just nine months after the biggest protests post-communist Romania has ever seen, which forced the government reverse itself on plans to decriminalize some forms of corruption.
