Italian weekly L'Espresso reports that Russia was planning to support the European election campaign of Italian prime minister Matteo Salvini with 3 million euros in financing for his League party. According to the revelation, to be detailed on Sunday, the money would have come from an oil deal brokered by a Russian state firm and Salvini's aide, Gianluca Savoini, in Moscow in October 2018, specifically by selling 3 million tonnes of diesel to subsidise the League. This is the latest episode of Russian interference in European politics ahead of the May vote.
