There are severe human rights abuses of older persons in
nursing homes, a new report by the European Network of National Human Rights
Institutions shows. The report reveals evidence that nursing
homes often disrespect older persons' rights, and in many cases they are admitted
into care homes without consent. Complaints range from elderly
home residents being transported down corridors in a state of undress to a lack of medical support and even verbal or
physical aggression. In 2015, 18.5 percent of Europe’s
population was aged over 65 years, while it is expected to rise to
30 percent by 2060.
