A study on the feelings of people with HIV in Lithuania revealed that they feel a great deal of stigmatisation. Fifty eight percent reported feeling worthless, 55% said they felt shame, 53% said they felt at fault for their condition and 90% were fearful of revealing they had HIV. Just over 40% reported verbal abuse and rumours. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, roughly 90% of HIV positive people in the country know that they have the disease, but only a third receive treatment due to stigmatisation. The number of infections is increasing from year on year.
