The eastern Aegean Islands of Lesvos, Chios and Samos in Greece once again face a sharp increase in the number of migrants landing from Turkey. Since last Thursday, statistics show that 566 people have arrived – significantly more than earlier in March or during all of February. The new arrivals add up to the more than 14,000 migrants are stuck on the islands waiting for decisions about their asylum applications. Human rights organizations earlier this month warned that reception facilities are overcrowded and conditions are inhumane.
