Sweden, the country that first criminalised paying for sex work, now plans to make paying for sex abroad illegal as well, according to a law put forward last week. The legislation would see Swedish residents punished for buying sex services outside the country, including countries where sex services are legal. 'Buying sexual services is unacceptable, regardless of whether it's done in Sweden or abroad', Swedish Justice Minister Morgan Johansson said in support of the law. The government decided to propose the new law after a study showed that most Swedish citizens who pay for sex do so abroad.
