After the resignation of Mr. Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, Spain's former minister of justice, Mr. Rafael Catalá was appointed to the post. Mr. Catalá appeared before the Spanish Parliament last week to explain some of the measures he intends to adopt, though it is still uncertain if he will drop many reforms initiated by his predecessor. With regards to the judicial fees and legal aid reform, he said he still needed to conduct an "analysis of the situation." He also failed to clarify his position on issues such as the creation of new "crimes against public order" or the reform of the judiciary.
