The Netherlands has been found responsible for the death of over 300 Muslim men in Srebrenica, but the state is only partly (30%) responsible for damages for the survivors. This was determined by the Court of Justice in The Hague on June 27. The men were killed after they were evacuated from a UN compound on July 13, 1995. The Dutch Battalion ("Dutchbat") acted illegally by continuing to contribute to their evacuation. The court states that Dutchbat could have or should have known at that time that the Muslim men had a significant chance of being subjected to inhuman treatment or execution.
