Up to 80,000 people marched to the Parliament in Budapest yesterday, April 9, in support of the Soros-backed Central European University, which faces closure under a new law passed by the Orbán government. The university's students, faculty and staff were joined by citizens of all ages who were concerned not only about the attack on academic freedom, but also recent threats to independent human rights organizations. Organizers of the event passed around four 15-meter-long scrolls of paper containing the names of only some of the people who have openly declared their support for CEU.
