The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Michel Forst, came to Italy to take part in initiatives organized by In Difesa Di, a network of civil society organizations - including Cild - advocating for the protection of human rights defenders. During a public meeting in Rome, Forst took a stance on the ongoing attack on NGOs doing rescue missions in the Mediterranean, saying that media and politicians should stop denigrating NGOs that are saving lives as well as quit the broader trend towards criminalization of solidarity.
