The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women has found Spain guilty of violating the Convention in a case brought by Women’s Link Worldwide, regarding a girl murdered by her father. The girl's mother, herself a victim of over 30 reported cases of domestic violence, fled her abusive husband and urged the divorce court to deny him child visitation rights. The court refused, allowing him to visit the girl without supervision. The Committee found a direct link between the lack of protection by the state and the girl's death, which occurred during an unsupervised visit.
