Governments and EU institutions should commit to further measures to tackle violence and discrimination against women, according to the fundamental rights in the EU 2017 report that the European Parliament’s Civil Liberties Committee adopted on Monday. MEPs condemned all forms of violence against women and regret that only 19 EU countries have ratified the Istanbul Convention on combating gender-based violence. They urged the rest of them to ratify it “without delay”. They also support the demonstrations for women’s sexual and reproductive health rights that took place across the EU last year.
