In a letter that, upon request of the Parliament, will from now be handed to asylum seekers upon their arrival, State Secretary Dijkhoff paints a picture of the course of events in emergency shelters: sleeping in sports halls or tents, long waits for asylum requests, and, for now, no chance to reunite with family members. Besides this, asylum seekers will also receive a translation of the Dutch Constitution "to inform them about the basic rules of our society."
