El Tribunal Europeo de Derechos Humanos condenó a Bélgica por dejar a una familia Roma serbia de solicitantes de asilo, con cinco niños, vivir en condiciones de extrema pobreza durante un mes, en la calle, antes de ser devueltos a Serbia. Los jueces no entraron a juzgar sobre el rechazo de la solicitud de asilo, pero dictaminaron que permitir a la pareja y sus niños vivir en dichas condiciones representaba una violación del Artículo 3 del Convenio Europeo de Derechos Humanos ("trato inhumano o degradante").
