The conference "Youth and HIV" was held in the Italian Senate on December 23, during which doctor Paola Scognamiglio, a specialist in infectious diseases at Rome's Spallanzani Hospital, reported that Italy sees 3,000 new HIV infections every year. She said the number of people in Italy who are unaware they carry the virus - and are thus never tested - stands at 15-25%, and urged the government to invest in better screening strategies.
