This public consultation aimed to give stakeholders, citizens, civil society organisations and businesses the opportunity to express their views on and concerns about the regulatory options the White Paper puts forward.
In its contribution to the consultation, Liberties argued that:
1) democratic oversight needs to be better emphasised in the forthcoming regulation;
2) technosolutionism needs to be avoided;
3) mandatory fundamental rights impact assessments ought to be conducted for all AI applications and;
4) that some types of applications should be banned outright.
Acknowledging that the future legal and regulatory frameworks for AI need to strike a fair balance between the various interests and leave room for R&D, Liberties believes that these considerations may come only after our fundamental rights are secured.
