Austrian officials want to give police access to secure
private messages with end-to-end encryption to help them fight crime. The government, through a new draft law, is seeking access to real-time conversation
data in cases where a court has granted permission and which might be connected
to terrorism or crimes that are punished by at least five years in prison. Police
would be granted wider, remote access, though the law would not grant
blanket access hardware. The Austrian justice minister said the country follows laws proposed in other European states, including Spain, Italy and France.
