The Belgian Aliens Office has introduced an asylum application quota, capping applications at 50 a day. Every day since the decision was made, queues outside the registration location have numbered more than a hundred. The most vulnerable people, such as women, children and people with health issues, are given priority. Civil society organisations have protested against the measure and have appealed to the new Secretary of State for Asylum and Migration, Maggie de Block, to annul the measure and reinstate effective access to the asylum procedure.
