New amendments adopted by Parliament establish the Monitoring Commission on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities under the Office of the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson. With this, Lithuania has implemented the recommendation of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to establish an independent mechanism to monitor compliance with the Convention. The Commission will examine the implementation of the Convention at national level, compile its observations in reports and offer recommendations to the authorities, individuals and legal entities.
