Human rights NGO are alarmed by "I Choose Life," an initiative that has spread to many Lithuanian cities. The initiative involves lighting candles in city squares to symbolize children not been born as a result of abortion. According to one of its organizers, "We want to do away with the belief that abortion is a woman's choice and her right." The spread of these initiatives is also alarming because Parliament still sees attempts to ban abortion, despite the fact that the public would disapprove, with 60 percent opposing a ban.
