Bosnian Dunja Mijatovic, the former Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europ representative on media freedom, was elected by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of
Europe to serve as the new Council of Europe (CoE)commissioner for
human rights. She will start her six-year term on 1 April, taking over the role from Latvian Nils Muiznieks. From 2010-2017, Mijatovic served as the media freedom representative of the OSCE. The office of the CoE commissioner for human rights is an
independent institution established in 1999, tasked with promoting for human rights.
