Last Monday, the High Level Expert Group (HLEG) on fake news and disinformation handed over its final report to the European Commission. The HLEG was set up to advise on policy initiatives to combat fake news and disinformation. The HLEG put forward five proposals:
1. Enhancing transparency;
2. Promoting media and information literacy;
3. Developing tools to empower users and journalists;
4. Safeguarding the diversity and sustainability of the European news media ecosystem; and
5. Promoting continued research.

Liberties has raised concerns about the EU's response to fake news.
