In 2015 youth care will become a responsibility of municipalities in the Netherlands. The first municipal ombudsman for children, Anne Mieke Zwaneveld, has been appointed in Rotterdam. Residents of the port city who encounter difficulties in youth assistance can turn to her for help. ''Where necessary, we will undertake action to make sure that the municipality and other organizations respect the rights of children,'' states Ms. Zwaneveld, who is honored to become ombudsman for children next to her job as municipal ombudsman.
