By the end of August, the first medical cannabis produced by the Istituto Chimico Farmaceutico of Florence should be ready. This will be the first Italian-produced medical marijuana and will enable the government to reduce the need of importing cannabis-based pharmaceuticals from the Netherlands, thus improving access to therapeutic marijuana — which is still very problematic in the country. It appears Italy is really taking steps, albeit tiny, towards better drugs policy, and discussion on a draft law for marijuana legalization is underway in the Parliament.
