The Red Cross and VluchtelingenWerk Netherlands (Dutch Council for Refugees) have announced that over 47,000 people have applied as volunteers with these organizations since this summer. The number of registered asylum requests up to and including the end of October is also 47,000, repeated applications included. So, in the last three months at least one new volunteer joined for every asylum seeker. Among the volunteers, there is a remarkable number of young people and parents with young children, according to the Council. They've been touched and would love to help.
