The provisions of Directive 2011/36/EU were transposed into Lithuanian law on the 17th of July, providing for additional victim protection in criminal proceedings. From now on, should an interview or the public nature of a hearing pose a risk of causing mental trauma or any other serious consequence to the victim, the hearing will have to be held in private, avoiding any repetition of interviews in open court by reading aloud the evidence given during the pre-trial investigation. Prior to this, the law only allowed underage victims to escape repeat interviews.
