Nils Muižnieks, the human rights commissioner of the Council of Europe, visited Germany in May. He is responsible for disclosing and acting against human rights violations. During his stay, he welcomed Germany’s commitment to admitting refugees from Syria. However, he also criticized severe drawbacks in the protection of asylum seekers. He urged Germany to take the fight against racism more seriously, for example by offering trainings to judges. He also demanded a much stronger parliamentary control of the intelligence services.
