A new, independent medical inquiry by Doctors for Human Rights - Italy (MEDU), with the support of the Open Society Foundations, sheds new light on the case of Stefano Cucchi. The report — which was presented on October 16 by MEDU, together with NGOs Associazione Antigone and A Buon Diritto — argues that there is a causal connection between the beatings to which Stefano was subjected to, the subsequent state of psychical trauma he was in, and his dramatic death: "He was beaten two times, and ultimately died because of the shock... This really was a case of torture," MEDU's report concluded.
